St. Louis Bertrand with a Musket

Church of Santa Corona, Vicenza, Italy

The musket is an attribute sometimes used in images of St. Louis Bertrand, but usually a crucifix emerges from the barrel, referencing a miracle in which the saint turned a gun into a crucifix. The images picture an early version of the musket, before the introduction of the flintlock.

This is one of a collection of statues of Dominican saints in a small chapel off the sacristy.
